Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is a new generation public university in Malaysia established by the government to produce highly skilled engineers for the nation and global community. It began operation in February 2002 as an engineering-focused university. The university has been the choice of more than 10,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students who choose engineering, business and entrepreneurship and communications as their programmes of study. Our graduates have a special place in the service sectors, industries and multinational corporations. Choosing UniMAP as higher education destination means investing your future in a Tier 5 or excellent university as rated in the Malaysian Higher Education Rating System (SETARA). Our dynamic and competitive engineering programs were also highly valued as excellent tier 5 in discipline-based assessment of D-SETARA.

In 2014, UniMAP was recognised as a 5-star university in teaching-learning and teaching facilities by QS Stars Rating System.

Strategic aims towards producing high impact research and sustainable innovations require the university to provide an environment conducive for researchers to flourish. Inventions and innovations from cutting-edge research works at the university have been given recognitions in numerous research exhibitions at home and abroad. This is a result of effective collaboration among researchers in different areas of science, technology, engineering and management. The number of Scopus-indexed publications by UniMAP researchers has been on the increase since 2003, therefore positioning the university among top 10 institutions in Malaysia in terms of productivity of publications. Centre of Excellence in Geopolymer and Green Technology is recognised among top institution in high impact publications.
